See all of Smoke’s reports →Oneonta jumped on starter Tyler Weygard for three runs in the bottom of the first, leaned on six strong innings from reliever Will Howard, and pulled away with a two-run eighth to beat Glens Falls 7-4 at Damaschke Field on Wednesday night. The Outlaws out-hit the Dragons 12-8 and split the two-game road set with Glens Falls, who fall to 1-3.
Jack Ploppert was the offensive engine on the Dragons side — 2-for-4 with two RBI singles to center, both of which scored Rene Vega — and Taye Robinson chipped in a 2-for-4 night with an RBI knock in a three-run third that briefly tied the game 3-3. Tyler Worth extended his hot stretch with a 2-for-3 line and a walk, raising his average to .750 across his first two games, while Giorgio Pantepinto added a 2-for-4 effort. Hunter Fales drove in the third tying run on a groundout. But after Glens Falls knotted it in the third, Oneonta scored single runs in the fifth and sixth on RBI singles from Owen Balleau and Kaden Krauss before Chris Florentino's RBI triple and a Colton Penner single put the game away in the eighth.
Will Howard (W, 2-0) yielded just three hits and a single earned run across six innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk. Myles Seid (L, 0-1) took the loss for the Dragons after surrendering an unearned run in the fifth. Glens Falls returns home Friday night to open a series with the Amsterdam Mohawks at East Field.
