See all of Smoke’s reports →The road trip ended quietly in Saugerties on Sunday. The Stallions scratched out a run in the first and never trailed, riding a four-pitcher shutout to a 5-0 win that dropped the Dragons to 5-12. Glens Falls managed just four hits and never solved the Saugerties staff, closing out the trip with a third straight loss.
Saugerties built its lead a piece at a time. Danny Suroweic singled home the game's first run in the first inning and later put it away with a solo homer in the sixth — the only ball to leave the yard all afternoon. Three sacrifice flies, from Steven Ramirez in the third, Ryan Recio in the sixth and Alex Slater in the seventh, accounted for three more runs as the Stallions piled up nine hits. Tyler Worth was the lone bright spot at the plate for the Dragons, going 2-for-4 to account for half the offense, while David Yorke and Kaden Barmer added the club's other two hits. Anthony Lino and Brady Fandl drew the only walks, but Glens Falls struck out 11 times against four Saugerties arms.
RJ Ensel was tagged with the loss despite a sturdy seven-inning start, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits without issuing a walk. Max McCluskey worked a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts. Landon Seipp picked up the win with three scoreless, five-strikeout innings of relief. The Dragons return home Tuesday to open a set with the Oneonta Outlaws.
