See all of Smoke’s reports →Glens Falls put this one away before Mohawk Valley ever found the scoreboard, piling up 13 hits and playing errorless ball in an 8-4 win at East Field on Friday. The Dragons led 8-0 through five innings, the bulk of it coming in a five-run fifth, and leaned on six scoreless frames from their staff to coast home, climbing to 7-13.
The Dragons opened the scoring in the second, when David Yorke came around and Kaden Barmer singled home Taye Robinson for a 2-0 edge. Tyler McKillop's run-scoring double play made it 3-0 in the third before Glens Falls broke it open in the fifth: Giorgio Pantepinto scored on a wild pitch, Robinson laced a two-run single, and Anthony Lino capped the rally with an RBI single for an 8-0 cushion. Pantepinto reached four times, scoring twice with two hits and two walks, while Yorke, Barmer and Lino each collected a pair of hits. Mohawk Valley pieced together 11 hits of its own — Brodie Freker and Jake Dolan each went 3-for-4 — but the DiamondDawgs left their threats stranded until the eighth.
Starter Billy Kind set the tone with four scoreless innings and three strikeouts, and the bullpen carried the shutout into the eighth, when Connor Scanlan's three-run homer fueled a four-run Mohawk Valley rally. Dominick Weidtman closed it out. The Dragons host the Amsterdam Mohawks on Sunday.
