See all of Smoke’s reports →Utica scored in four different innings and Brandon Peterson shut the door for six innings as the Blue Sox blanked Glens Falls 9-0 on Friday at Donovan Stadium. The Dragons managed just four hits, never advanced a runner across, and three errors kept handing the home club extra outs. The loss dropped Glens Falls to 8-17 and ended a brief winning note from earlier in the week.
Jack Sweeney led the Utica attack, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth, a run-scoring double in the eighth, and two runs scored. Justin Levine and Jack McWilliams each drove in two runs, Christian Cerone doubled home two in the seventh, and Ethan Madison added an RBI double in the fifth. The Blue Sox pulled away with four unearned runs across the seventh and eighth. Glens Falls got singles from Giorgio Pantepinto, David Yorke, Billy Barthel, and Alex Kerr, while Tyler McKillop drew a pair of walks, but the Dragons stranded every runner they put on.
Billy Barthel took the loss over four innings, and Noah Clausen followed with four innings of relief. Peterson earned the win for Utica, allowing four hits over six scoreless. The Dragons return home to face the Amsterdam Mohawks on the Fourth of July.
