See all of Smoke’s reports →Glens Falls stole one in the ninth, scoring twice with two outs to walk off the Oneonta Outlaws 5-4 on Sunday at East Field. The Dragons out-hit Oneonta 12-9 and played errorless defense, then rallied from a 4-3 deficit against reliever Ryan Johnston. Giorgio Pantepinto's RBI single to center brought home Jack Ploppert with the winner, capping a comeback that improved Glens Falls to 9-17.
The Dragons jumped ahead early, plating a run in the third on Rene Vega's RBI groundout and two more in the fourth on Anthony Lino's sacrifice fly and an Oneonta error. The Outlaws answered with three in the fifth, as Nolan Stark doubled home a run and PJ Strand and Colton Penner delivered RBI singles to tie it, then took the lead in the sixth when Daniel Tome III scored on a passed ball. Enrique Diaz reached base four times and scored twice, Pantepinto, Ploppert and Shane Hoover each had two hits, and Vega drove in the tying run in the ninth on a hit-by-pitch. Strand paced Oneonta with three hits.
Cooper Montaballo earned the win, striking out seven over six innings. Anders Lowkes tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief and Caleb Nelson finished it off. The Dragons stay home to host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Tuesday.
